Sports Collection - Classic
Like
many other collectors on the forum at spawn.com, Classic goes after unopened figures,
sometimes referred to as MOMC (Mint on Mint Card) figures. MOMC collectors face
a unique challenge in displaying their collection; earlier figures present a greater
challenge because they don't stand up well on their own. (McFarlane has changed
their packaging so the clamshells have a "base" that allows them so
stand very well.)
Classic has his collection displayed in a . . . well,
a classic approach for MOMC collectors. As you can see in the photos he has set
up a grooved board over the walls, upon which he mounts pegs to hang the clamshells
like they were displayed in the store. The pegs are long enough to allow Classic
to display his very substantial collection in a way that is very space-efficient.
Along the top he has mounted a shelf for storing the boxed 12" figures.
The
grooved board is called slat wall, and is available at Home Depot. Classic says
Home Depot didn't carry the hooks for the slat wall, but he was able to order
those from staples.com.
Classic has also set up island displays in the room
center and used the structural column to display more figures. He uses pegboard
and pegs on the island displays and structural column rather than the slat walls.
This
"store display" approach allows his collection to be displayed while
keeping the packages in pristine condition. Classic has a large collection of
non-sports (Spawn) figures in his collection, as well as a great assortment of
baseball and football Sports Picks.
