Hartland of Ohio LLC Posted 10/22/2008
Hartland
of Ohio LLC has announced that their 2008 Collector Club piece will be a hand-signed
George "Shotgun" Shuba figure.
The Shotgun Shuba figure will stand
8" tall and will be signed by Shuba at the Cleveland Christmas show taking
place November 21-23, 2008. The figure will be limited to 150 pieces and will
come with the Certificate of Authenticity and Hartland's hang tag. This figure
is the official club piece for Hartland's collector club. Club memberships for
2008 are sold out; the next window for joining the club will be in 2009. A limited
number of retail versions of this figure will be available to non-members for
$50.00 + S/H. George "Shotgun" Shuba is a former utility outfielder
and lefthanded pinch hitter in Major League Baseball who played seven seasons
for the Brooklyn Dodgers. His seven seasons included three World Series as well
as a World Series championship in 1955. He was the first National League player
to hit a pinch-hit home run in a World Series game. Shuba is best remembered
for his symbolic role in breaking down Major League Baseball's color barrier.
While playing for a farm team in the 1940s, Shuba offered a congratulatory handshake
to rival team player Jackie Robinson, who went on to become the first black player
in the major leagues. The moment was captured in a famous photograph. Mr.
Shuba will sign the figures for club members and meet guests of the Cleveland
Christmas show. The figures can be purchased from the website, www.hartlandllc.com,
or by calling Fay at 440.796.6973. Return
